George M. Dawson Thunder experienced an up and down season. The sinking of our ferry "The Queen of the North" made travel almost impossible to and from the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii. Our team qualified for the Provincials by defeating arch-rival Queen Charlotte Secondary 2-1 in a hard fought zone final match. Goal scorers for the Thunder were Vanessa Belcourt and Abby Mendez.
Coaches Lisa Accardo and Chris Bellamy greatly appreciated the team's hard work throughout the year. Most practices had more than 20 girls attending. Unfortunately due to the high cost of travel, not every player on the team was able to fly with us to Duncan. Our expenses (excluding airfare) for the Provincials were close to $8000. This has meant a lot of fundraising.
